Things in Turin have been very busy. On Friday night a group of us went to a 3€ hockey game. The US played Sweden and it ended in a shootout. Sweden won which meant they went on to play for the gold and the US would play in the bronze medal game. We had a bit of a celebrity sighting at the game... Katie Couric and Brian Williams from NBC were both sitting in front of us!
On Saturday Stacey and I went up to the mountains to watch the bobsleigh competition. We had seats for the event which meant we could walk all the way up to the top of the track and watch the event from the starting point. Let me tell you it was quite the hike! Stacey and I kept slipping on the ice and I wasn't sure we were going to make it all the way to the top. Once we got to the top we got to see all the teams preparing to go down the mountain and then see all the teams take off. That night we didn't get back to our apartment till really late, and for some reason Stacey and I seem to do pretty ridiculous things so the next morning we were up at 6:15...
We had decided that we wanted to go to Medal Plaza to see the medal ceremony for Sunday night. After the ceremony there is a concert and Whitney Houston was scheduled. So we went down to the city center and waited in line from about 7am to 10am to get a number. Then we had to go back at 2pm and stand in another line to wait to get the tickets. I don't know if they have figured it out yet but there system for the medal ceremony is probably one of the worst I have ever seen. We both got two free tickets, so at 7pm we dragged Linda who was really sick and Ryan out in the falling snow to the medal ceremony. It was well worth it, the US had won gold and silver in men's 1000m speed skating so we got to watch the US flag raised and the National Anthem played. The Italians had also won gold that night so the crowd was going crazy. Then Stacey and I stayed for the concert in the freezing cold and snowing weather. The concert was fun, Whitney Houston was a little sick and it was so cold that she had a little trouble singing but Stacey and I tried to help her out by singing along, especially because she sang all the old classic Whitney songs!
Monday came very early with a 6am shift and after the game we got to go to the bronze medal US women's hockey game and watched the US take bronze over Findland.
It has been a very exciting couple of days and we still have almost a week left!
